REDCAR TARN              Yesterdays Caspian gull still present
                                       4th year sub adult

Reasonable conditions at Fly Flatts this morning but poor lighting with very dark clouds coming across from the west. A light WSW>2  at 12 degrees and heavy rain by 1000 hrs.
First over on arrival was a small skein of Pink Footed geese >E followed about 30 minutes later by a skein of 136 also >E and very high.Very little else moving and only in low numbers and surprisingly no Redwing over my air space ,though some big numbers were reported by other sites. 4 Stonechat were present whilst  Greylag were on the water and 2 Raven up above.
The last bird of the morning was a Ringtail Hen Harrier heading >S over the Flat moor, a mega rarity for this site with my last seen here 7/10/2012. This bird making 2 female and 1 male seen by me at this site in 55 years watching.
Back to Redcar Tarn mid afternoon where yesterdays Caspian gull was still present and showing well. This bird was spotted by me yesterday putting it as a suspicious Herring gull but it turned out to be a 4th year sub adult Caspian gull first seen by KM earlier in the month but had,nt been seen since. Well done to Keith for spotting it on the blog yesterday and identifying it and seconded by MC. Thanks to both.
As well as the usual gulls etc up there today a female Shoveler was on the water as well as 5 Teal so a good end to a brilliant day.
