SEO trying its luck in the snow.
1445 hrs at Fly Flatts where I,d just missed the bright afternoon and was met with very dark clouds and haze over the moor on a light NW>3. Too much snow and ice on the track to attempt to drive down with the risk of not getting back up so as much as I love Fly Flatts I didnt fancy spending the night there sleeping in the car with 3 dogs so I parked up on the top road and walked down.
Part way down the track 4 Meadow Pipits flushed from the drainage channel and flew over the fence disappearing into the top field. Thats the first winter Mipits I,ve had up there this winter since vis mig time in the autumn.
The Short Eared Owl looked strange quartering over the snow on the moor but soon moved off heading back towards Nab Water Lane.
A few Mallards were on the water but no Whoopers that seem to have started moving through now.
Big gulls were the birds of the day with 61 Herring gulls
>W , 29 LBB gulls >SW and a nice flock of 12 Great Black Backed gulls >E which looked like geese from a distance.
Plenty Herring gulls were moving > W from the top of Ringby earlier in the afternoon as we drove back from Halifax.
