Back to Elland Gravel Pits

                                             A frozen canal
                                      11 Cormorants on the pylon

                                   Several Jackdaws enjoying the sun

                                           As well as Redwings.

With my upland venues still out of bounds due to ice and snow I had to settle for heading south again to Elland Gravel Pits although I think I,ll have to find another lowland venue till the thaw comes as after 3 visits to EGP at this time of year it gets boring as you,ve seen everything to see down there.
The canal was frozen solid this morning with the Goosanders and Mallards moved across to the river whilst there were no signs of the Redpoll/ Siskin flock along the canal side Alders which was disappointing as the sun was full on them for photos.
The only birds different from the last few visits were a very elusive Great Spotted Woodpecker, a few Redwings and a Sparrowhawk over.
As yesterday, on the way down to Brighouse there were just Redwings on the Lane Head trees but on the way back the Waxwings had returned and were in the tree top across the road from the top Rowan. I was going to stop but seeing the large crowd of birders there I gave it a miss.
