1500 hrs at Fly Flatts in my most dreaded conditions with 0 % cloud cover, hot sunshine 19 deg and a very light N>2. Everything was still and hot bringing up swarms of midges along the west bank. This weather,s no good for birds, no good for dogs and certainly no good for upland birders.
The skies were empty as expected , whilst the water held around 30 Canada chicks and 6 Greylag chicks with 2 LBB gulls licking their lips close by.
The day was saved with 4 Dunlin now present plus the usual Common Sandpipers, Mipits, Reed Bunting , Lapwing and Curlew.
A single male Wheatear was near the feeding station with a few Swallows over >N.
A Dotterel check on the Nolstar field brought a count of 11 Goldies but all in the back corner of the field amongst the juncus whilst a Cuckoo was calling down in Slaughter Gap.
Not much of a reprieve from this weather all week looking at the big yellow dots for every day on my phone although probably most people enjoy it with just a few miserable minorities like me that dont.
