Mad dogs and Birders go out in the mid day sun, Fly Flatts

                                           1 of 8 Redshank

                                         1 of 5 Common Sandpiper

Fly Flatts at 1500 hrs in a dreaded 24 deg and 100% blue sky on a light SW>2. Yuk.
Scorching hot on the south shore but slightly more pleasant on the west bank with the breeze cooling it slightly. Once again the skies were quiet although a few Lapwings and Curlews made the effort for a quick buzz round.
The water held the usual Canadas, Mallards and 5 Greylag, which is a bit unusual for up there, whilst the 2 Barnacle geese were near the boat compound.
Unlike yesterday waders were active moving up and down the west bank but never settling for long with the lack of shoreline. At least 8 Redshank were present with possibly more in the NE corner whilst returning Common Sandpipers are now up to 5.
Still not a Wheatear in sight and no Hirundines and very near the time for the reappearance of Swifts.
If the forecasters have got it right we,ve one more day of the hot stuff then back to some decent rain.
