Fly Flatts, day of the Heron.

Unusual bird for Fly Flatts other than spawning season.
                                          Hidden by the lagoon

                                       Moved across to the moor
If you,re squeamish look away now
                                        Tea time
                                   Oh not frog again.

Tea over, time to move on.

1500 hrs at Fly Flatts in much better conditions than yesterdays sun with 90% light cloud cover in a moderate SE>5 . Nearing the end of the watch the wind eased to SSE>4 with black clouds.
The birds today were much more mobile than yesterday with 4 Snipe up drumming whilst several Curlew and Lapwing were in the air. Most of the geese have moved onto the moor now including 2 Greylags which seem to have settled amongst the Canadas.
A single Buzzard was soaring way over the western ridge along with a Kestrel and 2 LBB gulls are still patiently waiting around the Lapwing colony.
Strange to watch a Heron at this site although they do appear each year for the frog spawning season for easy pickings with hundreds of frogs present at the moment.
Only 1f Wheatear briefly today near the boatyard but 3 were in the Shelf Moor trailer park field early afternoon as we passed on the way to Brighouse.
The Nolstar fields were quiet with farmers present rounding up the sheep, possibly for lambing.
