1st day of the sailing club season
A good turn out of boats.
At last, a single male Wheatear
As always with spring birds, very nervy and mobile
A pair of Stonechat with the Wheatear.
1500 hrs at Fly Flatts with a full compliment of boats out on the water for the first day of the sailing season. Conditions were reasonable with a light E>4 and light snow flurries throughout.
The Canadas and Mallards on the water dont seem to mind the boats but I,m glad the Sandwich Tern wasnt still on the number 8 buoy.
Down at the feeding station a Skylark took off spooking the first male Wheatear of the year for Fly Flatts. It flew onto the fence post then onto the ground but remained at distance and very mobile before flying across to Robin Rock closely followed by a pair of Stonechat.
Otherwise all quiet but the return of the Wheatear show that thing are on course. On the return journey the farmer just bet me to the Skylark field feeding his cattle so no birds there. See what tomorrow brings with a dodgy forecast.
You were right once again Compo, you said I,d get a Wheatear today.
