Deep swell
High Tide
Bit like Scarboroughs Marine Drive.
Unusual to get Jackdaws here >SW
White water
Lapwings at Nolstar
Along with 16 Golden Plover
Late afternoon yesterday at Fly Flatts the birds were breath taking. This afternoon at Fly Flatts the cold wind was breathtaking. Heavy over night freezing had left the lagoon and puddles frozen with an icy cold SE>6 gusting 7 which eased slightly as the watch went on. Other than the wind, conditions were good with 90 % cloud cover and brief glimpses of sunshine.
The cold wind had wiped the slate clean of birds other than a low count of 28 Canadas with the active peninsular now frozen over and void of Lapwings, Oystercatchers and Mallards. A single Kestrel braved the wind whilst the unusual sighting of a steady flow of Jackdaws all >SW came over throughout , not a common bird for this site.
On the way back a stop off at Nolstar found one of the fields holding around 50 Starling, 27 Lapwing and at least 16 Golden Plover though the Goldies stuck to the back of the field keeping down below a ridge. Soon be May time now so the Dotterel can join them.
