Leeshaw reservoir

            Muck spreading tempting birds back
                       Lapwings back in the fields

                                           Goosanders on choppy waters.

Yet another day of snow, sleet and rain with a strong SW>5 so seeking a bit of shelter from the wind and rain it was over to Leeshaw reservoir where dark skies and windy conditions brought horizontal drizzle over the moor.
Ignoring the weather, things were beginning to look more spring like with a return of Lapwings to the fields along with several Meadow Pipits and a single Skylark.
The Whimbrel field has had a good session of muck spreading and held around 75 small gulls, 38 Lapwing, 15 Mipits and several Corvids , Mallards and Starlings but no Curlew as yet but any day now. The water was also livelier with 3 male and 2 female Goosander, 18 Mallards, around 40 Black Headed gulls and 8 Canada geese.
Golden Plover were starting to call on the northern moor whilst a Snipe gave a brief drumming display making it feel like spring is just around the corner.
Hopefully this will be the last of the snow for a while so I can get back to Fly Flatts.
