Leeshaw Reservoir and Visible Migration

Gulls gathering on the north shore
                                                  2 juv Little Owls

                                  Both parents on guard

                                         Last remaining Oystercatchers
                                                             Adult and young
Lake District Greylag, now through the
                                                    moult and flying.

1445 hrs and off to Leeshaw ahead of the approaching weather front to see if anything is moving in front of it.
On arrival the wind was increasing to SW>5 and dark clouds approaching although the rain did,nt appear until 1545 hrs and even then was only light drizzle, the heavy stuff following at 1830 hours just in time to catch me dog walking up the park.
LBB and BH gulls were gathering on the north shore
whilst the Yellow Legged gull made a brief appearance before dropping over the ridge towards Lower Laithe. The water held around 80 Canadas with around 100 Greylags in a nearby field showing what a good season they,ve had. Little Owls have also bred well with 2 adults and 2 juvs in the usual area.
Vis Mig wise, 3 Swifts went through as well as 2 Curlew but no other waders present other than 1 adult with 1 well grown Oystercatcher juv which seem to be the last remaining birds left.
Looks like a mixed bag of sunshine and showers for this next week so hopefully the Vis Mig will be stepping up a gear.
Almost time for Andy to get out on the cricket pitch, Dave up to Hunter Hill and Howard to his Sentry Hill spot. Simon Johnson has already kicked off at Manchester as well as several inland sights within interest range are underway.
