Heading to the north of Soil Hill
Not a bird Id expected today in the conditions.
Because of the strong WNW>5 and heavy hail showers I headed for Ogden at 1600hrs to find it ,as expected, very quiet with little in the way of passerines other than the usual Willow Warbs etc in small numbers. As I got near the duck pond and heading towards the Giants tooth the ducks suddenly started creating along with a Crow lifting up out of the trees making a right noise. A scan round with the naked eye saw a raptor soaring high and to the east of me so I went for the camera thinking a shot of a Sparrowhawk is better than nothing but on zooming in, there it was, RED KITE. It soared around a couple of times then was lost over the trees but heading ENE passing Soil Hill slightly to the north. I dashed up to the Giants Tooth for a good vantage point but was unable to re locate it.
Dipped on Tree Pipit, Crossbill and Cuckoo but Im happy with the bird I got.
