Queensbury Today

A dry calm day with a good grey sky, that was until I got home from work and then the heavens opened.
Plenty Swallows about today taking advantage of the swarms of midges in the humid conditions. Most were just feeding but several were moving through >NE.
LBB gulls continued to head mainly >SW whilst a v formation of 9 Black Headeds went over >NW very high.
Calderdale grapevine has been quiet these last few days showing that its not just this immediate area thats not getting the birds.
One sickening report today from a neighbour , Chaffinch are rare up here so it was good to have a male singing since the spring in my garden and around the gardens by Foxhill Park and better still to find it breeding a couple of gardens away. This week 2 young fledged and went onto this neighbours lawn only to be immediately wiped out with his next doors cat. Thats probably the first and last time they,ll breed round here.
