Newcomer, Ringed Plover
1 of 4 Dunlin
1 of 6 Common Sandpiper
A sunny bright morning with a cool NE>4 at 10 degrees. Good visibility apart from the dreaded heat shimmer.
Access still limited with the fire service vehicles and pumps on the south shore and still having to feed water from the reservoir whilst the fire on the moor still has several hot spots and continues to smoulder.
A newcomer in this morning was a single adult male Ringed Plover on the shore in the SE corner which was very mobile but kept returning to the same spot. Way over on the north west shore there were Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Redshank and Oystercatcher as well as Lapwing and Curlew whilst the Ruff was in the same area as yesterday.
The nearest I could get was the east bank peninsular where scoping was very difficult with the amount of heat shimmer, and photos were out of the question.
Common Sandpipers kept coming to the east bank as well as Redshank, though I find Redshank to be the most timid of all waders and very difficult to get within photographic range of them, even with the 400mm on.
There were 3 LBB gulls moving around the water and west bank whilst 2 female Wheatear were very elusive. The skies remained empty other than a few Swallows >N.
Same sort of forecast for morning with a little more cloud early a.m. hopefully.
