A 'Tern' up for the books, Fly Flatts.

                                Distant Common Tern, NW corner.

                                Soon moved through
                                Tufted, drake in eclipse.

Another morning with what I call exciting reservoir weather with a moderate SW>5 gusting 6, full dark cloud and heavy showers at 10 degrees.
A second pleasing visitor in two days when the first scan of the morning reveled a Common Tern well over in the NW corner flying over the edge of the west banking. Unfortunately it stayed at that distance and then was lost from sight when a particularly heavy shower came on, not to be seen again.
Most sightings I,ve had of Terns at Fly Flatts have been in July but usually limited to one or two per year. The exception is the Sandwich Tern from 2018 which appeared in March.
As expected, the Common Scoter from yesterday had moved on with just a pair of Tufted on the water other than the usual Mallards and geese. A Buzzard and Kestrel were hovering in the wind and again Swallows and Swifts were plentiful.
Waders consisted of 1 male Ringed Plover, 5 Common Sandpiper plus 1 chick, 1 Oystercatcher and chick and a single Curlew. Several small waders were on the north shore but poor visibility in the conditions but all looked like the usuals.
The 2 resident Crows that have been up there years have finally bred and raised 3 juvs in the lagoon tree.
Still very windy tomorrow with low chance of rain so see if I can get a hat trick.
