A waiting game at Fly Flatts

The 2 Ringed Plovers still hanging on for an 8th day.
Sheltering behind a tuft from the westerly wind.
       Good view of  wing topography.

Ice cold at Fly Flatts this morning at 1 degree with the lagoon frozen over and feeling even colder in the moderate W>4 and full cloud cover.
Its a matter of watching and waiting for birds to turn up now at Fly Flatts with a couple of weeks before the expected kick off so its a matter of making the best of whats there until the goods start to arrive.
The 2 Ringed Plovers were still on the east bank but more mobile today with the full force of the west wind against them. I expected them to move to the shelter of the west bank but they did,nt seem too perturbed by the weather and were still feeding well when the rain came in.
Two Oystercatchers were further along the same bank along with Curlews and Lapwings all keeping down in the reeds and long grass.
A walk to the SE corner produced at least 8 Golden Plover with just their heads showing above the heather and a first returning Wheatear in the distance beyond the Robin Rocks.
A small group of Herring gulls headed >SE whilst 3 Raven and a Pied Wagtail were also airborne.
Good to see some of the sailing group up there preparing equipment in hopes of a start to the sailing season at the end of the month if the lock down allows them.
