Leeshaw reservoir a.m.

                                           Greylags piling in
                                            1st winter Herring
Gulls lined up by the water valve tower and on the wall and banking

With only a morning session today, due to the daughter moving house, Fly Flatts was once again aborted due to fog on the tops so back to Leeshaw reservoir where the sky was clear with some sunshine on a light NW>3 at 2 degrees.
A hectic and lively morning, though nothing special, but plenty to keep me occupied throughout the watch. As always there, the gulls were the main attraction with swarms of  Commons and Black Headeds as well as 12 Herring gulls.
Midway through the morning the whole flock of Greylags and Canada geese came piling in over the water and dropping into a field to the west of the reservoir. The noise was deafening from both their calls and wing beats as they flew over, an amazing sight.
At one point the whole of the gulls lifted off as a Merlin whistled through and disappeared over the moor whilst a Buzzard soared high above the old mill.
A small group of 10 Meadow Pipits were the only small passerines present.
