Once again the howling wind spoilt the watch late afternoon with a strong W>6 blowing at 28.9 m.p.h. bringing periods of light drizzle over the moor with 50 % cloud cover and some sunshine.
This seems to have been the case throughout the day with very little vis mig reported and no other reports , grapevine or otherwise.
A wobbly walk on the west bank to the NW corner and back ,as yesterday, provided nothing and a good scan below the bank in hopes of Ring Ouzel provided the same. In fact no bird of any description was seen until I was back at the car sky watching where the wind was beginning to drop allowing the raptors to get up with 4 Kestrels and 3 distant Buzzard.
I,ve sorted a way to get the Canon 7d Mk1 to auto focus quicker by changing the settings from half press shutter button focusing to back button focusing ,whilst my 7d Mk 2 is in intensive care, and it seems to work well although I,ve had no birds to photograph since I did it so I,ve been having to test it out on the moving blades of the wind turbines.
If you,ve a camera in need of a quick repair don,t take it to Janet Greens, Halifax for them to send away, they,ve had mine 2 weeks now and have,nt even come back to me with an estimate. Another few days and I,ll be getting it back from them and try somewhere else. I,m beginning to get withdrawal symptoms now with not having it.
