A first for Soil Hill, and vis mig

                      The old Soil Hill Pottery
                                       The kiln
Looking over the pottery to Thornton Moor
The Ned Hill track , north end.

Very little vis mig over the tops today due to the strong WNW>6 but slight movement this a.m. over Old Guy Rd.

A couple of days ago DP came across a family of Redstarts near the Soil Hill pottery but very mobile.
This morning NK re located an adult Redstart along the Ned Hill track near to the watch point.
As Ogden was reported as poor and Oxenhope was out of the question due to pathetic little men blowing away Red Legged Partridge I thought it worth a dabble to get the Redstart, a bogey bird for me.
It was 1630hrs before I could escape for 1 hour which was late in the day for passerines along with a strong wind and drizzle but being a true professional at disappointment and dips off I went faint hearted.
After doing the track north to south without a bird I thought help is needed here so a call to NK for some directions to this mornings location.
After a lot of standing and being buffeted by the wind patience paid off and a small bird made a move near the bottom of a thick bush. Up with the bins to reveal a lovely grey back and red tail and rump, a male Redstart.
A few minutes late 2 juvs were in the same bush before flitting further along the track but keeping low.
The adult kept flying out of the bush Flycatcher style but every time disappeared into the thick foliage.
Well done to DP and NK for turning up a site first for Soil Hill and making me a happy man even though I had to come away with an empty camera,  but its not over yet, watch this space.
