Dont get excited, these are previous years birds
Last year was poor
Note the wing tips, hence Wax- wing.
Large flock at Pellon Lane few years ago.
Coming to a Rowan tree near you soon.
A grapevine report today from DCB via DJS with 26 Waxwings over Oxenhope heading for Ogden along with reports on BirdGuides of birds all around the country, the nearest to us so far is Leeds.
Last year was very poor but this year looks like it could be a bumper year.
These birds,in sometimes massive flocks, turn up in built up areas anywhere that there are Rowan trees bearing berries. Supermarket car parks are a favourite with Halifax Sainsburys and Wickes being a hot spot as well as Pellon Lane opposite the Pets at Home shopping area.
The birds move in on mass and strip the trees bare within a couple of days before moving on so you have to be on your toes to catch them.
If you come across a feeding flock photography is easy as the Waxwings let you walk near enough under the tree without being disturbed.
Queensbury reports are rare due to lack of berry trees unless the new Tesco have any down there, dont know because havent been.
NK got a small flock a few year back in The Willows health centre grounds but these were only passing through birds, also birds have been seen in gardens over Scarlet Heights. Watch those Rowans.

NOTE !!
No sightings of Roe Deer, Fox, Hare or Badger will be mentioned on this blog throughout the year and links will be removed from other blogs giving the whereabouts of these mammals due to the rising influx of poaching, long dogging and lamping by sick individuals.
