Leeshaw/Leeming reservoirs.

LEESHAW                    2 Little Owl

Several Mistle Thrush and Fieldfare present.

                                    1 of 5 Herring gull

                                        Around 50 small gull
LEEMING                        Very quiet

DOG AND GUN            Few Herring gull

More fog on the tops so I risked a drive to Leeshaw, being quieter without works and school traffic.
With Long Causeway being shut until 20th Feb I had to go through Denholme and on Trough Lane which is a couple of miles further but no problem traffic wise. Over the next few weeks several road closures are due around Leeshaw so I'll be avoiding this venue throughout February.
Leeshaw was below the cloud-base with full cloud on a cool ESE>>4 at 4 degrees with good visibility.
Very quiet on the water with just 22 Mallard and around 50 small gulls along with 5 Herring gull. The Shelduck and Goosanders, reported yesterday by birder Richard, had moved on, as expected, but one turned up on Mixenden today, reported by DJS.
A pair of Little Owl were in their usual area, whilst several Fieldfare and Mistle Thrush were mobile around the trees. Otherwise down to the usual species, with a distant field full of Greylag and Canadas but too distant to sort through.
On the way back I stopped off briefly at Leeming with was catching the full force of the easterly wind and was near void of birds with just 6 Herring gull and 5 Canadas. The Dog and Gun field held 6 Herring and a few Black Headed gull.
Early afternoon Lynda wanted to go to Asda Halifax so I took the opportunity to go the top way so I could look down on Mixenden reservoir from the top of Whitegate where I could see Daves Shelduck  at the north end of the water before it disappeared under the banking, thanks for the text Dave.
Looking grim for tomorrow with a day of rain, sleet and snow on a moderate easterly with banks of fog moving around at 4 degrees.
