Sheet ice, not easy with 2 dogs in tow.
West Bank ice rink
NKs 11 Tufted still present
10 Redpoll in the Alders
Long Tailed Tits still at the fat balls
A treacherous morning after overnight sleet had frozen solid. The drive to Ogden had to be via Keelham sticking to the main roads with the minor roads still ice riddled.
Ogden Lane was shot ice and after I'd steadily drove on there the car park was closed so a steady turn around and parked at the end of the lane.
Walking was not good with wall to wall sheet ice down past the info centre, along the promenade and all along the west bank, thank goodness for Rigger boots. Luckily the water has'nt frozen any more than yesterday with ice just around the fringes.
First off was a check of the feeders with just the 4 common Tit species as well as Robin, Blackbird and Dunnock. The water held around 20 small gulls and 2 Herrings whilst the 11 Tufted were still present at the north end.
The west bank trees were quiet apart from 10 Redpoll high up in the Alders but keeping very mobile.
On the way home around a dozen Lapwings were in a field between Keelham and the Raggalds flood.
Despite the underfoot ice it was a pleasant session with only another 2 dog walkers seen as well as warden Chris.
A bit of a mix up for tomorrows forecast showing possible snow overnight tonight leaving a cloudy morning with possible fog on a moderate SW which turns east mid afternoon bringing more fog and a mix of snow and/or rain until midday Friday at minus 1 degree.
