LEESHAW Pink Footed Goose chilling out.
A hungry Redshank, 1 of 6
4 of 6 Redshank
Leeshaw this morning was breezy, SW>5, with dark clouds and some early drizzle but again very lively with birds. More Redshanks had arrived overnight with a count of 6 present along with 21 Oystercatchers all very noise and squabbling with Lapwings throughout.
Golden Plover were calling from the moor but remained unseen but no Snipe showing as yet. Two Little Owl were distant and several Meadow Pipits were flitting around the fields. Otherwise it was down to Greylags and Canadas plus a small count of Curlew.
Late afternoon at Fly Flatts had a few light showers on a moderate W>5 with good visibility.
Another walk on the west bank checking for Wheatear failed to provide the goods with the bird of the afternoon being Meadow Pipits with more coming in from the >SE. This in turn brought out a Peregrine over the moor with a quick fly past but not seeming too interested.
The only shorebirds were Lapwings whilst the Canadas were all up in the fields or on the moor. A disappointing watch which was probably spoilt by the moderate wind.
On the way back from Fly Flatts the football field by the Crossroads Inn was alive with Meadow Pipits.
