Leeshaw this morning had an icy cold W>5 with snow, hail and sleet showers but a good gull day with 19 Herring gull stopping off briefly on their way through >W as well as several small gulls. Otherwise things were quiet with no signs of the Fieldfare flock but good to get a Grey Wagtail down in the brook whilst the water held 2 Cormorant and 1 male Goosander as well as the usual Mallards.
The same sort of weather late afternoon at Fly Flatts with once again a lack of birds with 2 common birds but uncommon for Fly Flatts with a single Rook and 2 Common gulls through. On the way back the field opposite the wind farm was heaving with Fieldfares but as I stopped to get some pics the heavens opened with a powerful hail and snow storm so that was that.

One of the garage owners I used to work for was nicknamed doom and gloom because he always looked for the bad things in life. Some of his favourite sayings were :-
Every silver lining has a cloud,
As one door closes another door shuts,
If you see the light at the end of the tunnel it will be a train coming.
Well today I had an event that made me agree with him. After being retired 12 months now , on Tuesday I got a cheque from the Inland Revenue for £ 520 for over payment of tax 2018/2019.
Great stuff thought I until today I received a bill from the Inland Revenue for £650 for under payment of tax 2016/2017. So in 3 days I went from £520 up to £130 down, oh well, if it was,nt for bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all. It could have been worse, I could have dipped on the Caspian gulls.
