Fly Flatts a.m. / Leeshaw p.m.

Fly Flatts                   1 of 2 Raven

Leeshaw  Distant tree full of Starling and Fieldfare
                                     Gulls after trout pellets
                        only 5 Greylags found today
                                        1 of 2 Cormorant

                                           Mallards in the conduit.

Fly Flatts this morning was shrouded by slow clearing low fog patches despite a moderate W>5 at 3 degrees.
Another poor watch here with 9 Herring gull >SW, 2 LBB gull >SE and 2 Raven.
The large Fieldfare/Starling flock had moved lower down out of the wind to a field just above Cold Edge dams.
Late afternoon at Leeshaw was cloudy with odd patches of sunshine but poor light still with the moderate W>5.
No sign of the large Greylag flock today with just 5 present along with 9 Canadas which are slowly starting to return.
The water held a few Mallard and several small gulls whilst 38 Herrings passed through >W with some stopping off briefly on the water.
Interesting to see Bradford Waltonians Angling club throwing pellets in to feed the Trout which brought a nice flock of gulls in . The pellets must float on the water and the gulls seemed to make short work of them.
So not the best of birding days and struggling to come to terms with a smaller lens. Using a Canon 300 mm with a 1.4 converter for now so taking at 672 mm with the 1.6 crop factor camera but much reduced lighting and much slower auto focus.
Done some ringing round today and taking Big Bertha into intensive care tomorrow to see if the camera surgeon can resurrect her.
