Hay bales in the snow
Reservoir moving in to the ponds
Wintry scene in the boatyard
1500 hrs and Fly Flatts as dark as night with a low cloud base shrouding the wind turbine but horizontal visibility across the water, just!
Queensbury got its first covering of snow today but it was clear by mid morning , unlike Fly Flatts which held onto the snow in lower temperatures but not unpleasant up there in a light ESE > 4. Very little bird wise but good exercise and good fresh air which you can,t beat.
A walk along the west bank failed to find any Blackbirds present whilst a very difficult scan of the east bank revealed 23 Mallard and 5 Golden Plover with 4 BH Gulls on the water.
Back at the boatyard 2 Stonechat were on the wire fencing along with a single Wren.
By 1545hrs the lights had gone out and the fog had come down so that was a good enough hint for me to get off home.
That reminds me of when we used to visit my Grandmother on an evening. If we looked like staying a bit late she would get up and say, " I,m off to bed now, thamn
wind clock up afore tha goes ".
She used to be up at 5 every morning and used to say to me, as a lad, if she heard Id slept in a bit,
" Tha di,s ey bed, there,s plenty time for liggin ey bed when tha,s dead". Something thats always stuck with me making me a morning person.
