2 seperate flocks of Goldies on the east bank
Distant Dunlin
20 Goldies in all
Adult Dunlin in winter plumage
Mixing in with the Goldies
1500 hrs and this mornings fog cleared early to leave a bright day with some very black clouds on a SE>4.
All the activity today was on the east shore so very distant but short periods of sunshine made a few record photos possible.
DJSs Greylag geese had moved on from late morning leaving 68 Mallard around the peninsular whilst 18 Black Headed gulls were on the water plus 3 Herrings over >NE.
Golden Plover were in 2 seperate groups of 11 and 9 , one near the peninsular and one further north. A scan through the group to the north revealed a small wader which turned out to be a Dunlin. Not quite up to ATs standards of his Ringstone Ruff but good to find it was a different bird to the one seen a few days ago, this one being an adult in winter plumage.
With the shoreline as it is theres still time to get late passage waders or over wintering birds .In 2007, eck, it doesnt seem that long since, I had a Greenshank in the SW corner at Fly Flatts on the 9th of December.
You can,t beat local patch watching, its hard work and very frustrating but the rewards are well worth the effort.
