What I call perfect weather conditions this morning at Fly Flatts with heavy rain clearing by 0630 hrs
leaving 100% cloud cover with a slight S>3 and light drizzly rain.
Remarkably the shoreline, which is now disappearing fast , was void of waders other than 2 Lapwing. A single Tufted was on the water along with the usual sp. whilst 4 juv and 5 ad Wheatear were moving through. Two Common Sandpipers were distant on the east shore .
On the Visible Migration side, Swifts were piling through along with a few Swallows >S whilst LBB gulls moved high and >W.
Most Meadow Pipits have moved from the moor with a few late breeders hanging on with a slight movement of this species >W.
Without a doubt Short Eared Owls took the biscuit this morning with 4 birds quartering the area and all seeming to catch prey. Hopefully they,ll move on in the next week before the sad men arrive on the 12th.
