Down on the island with a Cormorant.
My Little Egret , Gordon Denison trophy.
With terrible moving weather, hot sunshine and blue skies plus a grapevine message of a Little Egret knocking about around EGP it was out with the passport and head down the long and winding road to Brighouse , there is life outside Queensbury !.
This was a bit of a nostalgia trip as up to a few years ago I spent every Sunday morning trekking around the gravel pits and it was 5/5/2003 when I discovered the first 2 Little Egrets to be seen in Calderdale, on the river at this location.
On arrival the bird was soon found on the gravel island below the steel bridge alongside a Cormorant.
It then flew to the weir where it settled catching small fish regular. It landed not 20 yds from a fisherman and both seemed to ignore each other although the angler looked a bit twitchy at me snapping photos.
A great bird and a great find by Mike Henshaw and once again thanks to DJSs grapevine, birds like this you get your £5 worth in one go.
