Redwing Invasion

An early hospital appointment with Lynda meant no early watching for me today on a bright clear sunrise morning but down below nearer the hospital we ran into dense pea souper fog.
We arrived back in Queensbury to find flock after flock of Redwings overhead all >SW, some of the flocks being c 100 in total.
Unfortunately it was a quick change and a dash into work to catch up the 2 hours missed.
By lunch time all had quietened down apart from a small flock of Redwings >SE.
Up in Foxhill park a few Fieldfare came over >W and it was interesting to watch Starlings and gulls feeding on the wing very high up either taking flies or flying ants.

Anyone who missed the weekends female Scaup on Fly Flatts will be pleased to hear that it has returned along with a male Common Scoter but will probably be gone when the saddos start shooting up there on Saturday. This news courtesy DJS, see Calderbirds for his report.
Nothing else heard today other than HC again getting good numbers of Redwings over Oxenhope.

Got to be any day now that the skies are full of Fieldfares sweeping into the area.
