Persistence pays off. Ogden Mediterranean Gull.

                                        Plenty gulls to search through

                                    All Black Headed and Common

                                Star Prize, ad Mediterranean Gull

As predicted, thick fog this morning lingering in Queensbury throughout the day. Ogden started off very foggy but soon lifted to just above the tree tops leaving it dark and misty with drizzle on a light WSW>2 at 6 degrees.
Much more activity in the waterside trees today with a good count of Long Tailed Tits and Chaffinch along with a few Goldcrest. A flock of around 20 mixed Redpoll and Siskin were very mobile over the west bank alders but failed to settle before disappearing deeper into the plantation.
With 11 morning visits this month to Ogden I've religiously scoured through the gulls several times each visit but found nothing out of the ordinary. This morning, after 3 separate checks I came up with around 150 small gulls, 70% being Black Headed and 30% Common, along with 6 Herring and 2 LBB.
The gulls were constantly moving between the water and the east bank with a few scattered about on the west bank and north end. As I was leaving, a group of gulls were back on the east shore so luckily I decided to have a final check through, BINGO,  an adult Mediterranean gull was amongst them busily preening. It was poor dark conditions for photos but with the camera wide open the gull stayed whilst I got some shots and was still on the banking as I left.
This is more than likely the gull that Dan B found at this site on the 2nd Nov and is moving around the area making my 4th Med gull sighting so far this year. With Caspian and Yellow Legged under my belt it just leaves Iceland gull now which usually show Jan/Feb but failed to appear this year.
Looking like a wet start to the morning on a light NW with early cloud and rain.
