An excellent day weather wise, if not bird wise, with blue skies and sunshine on a light N>3 at 0 degrees rising to 2 degrees during the day.
Big expectations of Pinks starting to head north today in the clear skies after being pinned down the last 2 days with rain and fog but the sky was surprisingly quiet with just a few Herrings and Common gull.
Still no gulls settling in the top fields, even though they are now thawed and boggy, with just a single Lapwing and the usual corvids and Starlings. A noisy Raven was over the trailer compound whilst a group of 8 Meadow Pipits were mobile, moving from field to field.
Three hardy passerines still up there, with a Blackbird, a Wren and a female Stonechat whilst 16 Canada geese flew over Soil Hill area towards Ogden.
Hard work birding at the moment but keep chipping away at it. Hopefully , the police are trying to get Boris to clarify the exercise rules by giving a mileage for travel after being copped out on his bike 7 miles away from his home which they say was ok as long as you dont take a flask of tea?? The mind boggles!!!
