Skies alive, Woodpigeons
Count them, !!! Not flies but Woodpigs
Another cracking morning at Fly Flatts with a W>5 along with sunshine and showers.
By late afternoon the weather had turned atrocious with near gale force W>7 and torrential rain showers so a Ogden dog walk was as good as it got.
On the way up there 3 Twite were at the roadside just below the Withins before flipping over the wall into a field with several clumps of reeds . With the birds very elusive, bad light and me parked in a very dodgy place I left them be with a quick look on the way back revealing nothing but these are probably the Fly Flatts birds from last week.
With vis mig as good as over Woodpigeons kept it alive with more birds than I,ve ever seen with 3 flocks of over 1000 pigs all to the west of me over and below the western ridge. At one point the whole of the western ridge was alive with them.
With a rough count in blocks of 100 I estimate at least 4500 birds with several birds below the skyline uncounted.
A nice little group of 6 Stonechat dropped in by the lagoon with otherwise it being just a matter of the usual species. Once again a pleasing morning.
