A good morning for Herring gulls.
A bright dry start to the morning with a cold 3 degrees N>5 and good visibility until clouds started rolling in from the North bringing rain by late morning.
After an afternoon of heavy rain and sleet I was blessed with bright and dry skies for the second watch late afternoon with even a touch of sunshine.
Herring gulls were the bird of the morning with several heading >SE, an unusual route for this species although that seemed to be the route for other birds as well.
Some long periods of nothingness in the sky then another wave of birds which is usual as the migration draws to a close
The afternoon watch was quieter apart from a skein of around 50 Pinkies heading >W well to the south of me just beyond the M62 which the birds seemed to be following. Otherwise all quiet until the pre roost gulls started arriving firstly landing on the water and then resting up on the north shore.
