Alive with Swifts throughout
Usual Redshanks
Lapwing seeing off 1 of 3 Raven.
100s of juv Starlings
Oystercatcher protecting its chick from LBB gull
A breezy morning at Fly Flatts with a moderate SW>5 gusting 6 with a mix of sunshine and some very dark clouds at 10 degrees.
The highlight of the morning was Swifts piling through >S all skimming low over the water along with a lesser number of Swallows. A couple of Sand Martins went through but no House Martins.
The other spectacular of the morning was the number of young Starlings moving around the fields in swarms of 100 plus. The Oystercatchers, Curlew and Lapwings were kept busy warning off Crows, Ravens and LBB gulls with their chicks still well hidden around the area.
Very little on the wader scene, which can be expected during June, with just a single Dunlin, 3 Common Sandpiper and 4 Redshank as well as a noisy Snipe over on the ' Fill Belly Flat'.
I kept one eye on the sky today in hopes of the 2 Avocet just over the hill at firstly Hollingworth Lake and then nearby Audenshaw reservoir. It was 1/7/2019 when I had 3 over Fly Flatts in atrocious conditions heading >SW and later to turn up at a Manchester reservoir, but no joy today.
Looking mainly dry tomorrow but still a moderate to strong westerly starting at 10 degrees then a wet and windy week to follow.
