1 of several Redshank
Male Reed Bunting
Low count of Meadow Pipits
Very wet Oystercatcher
A very wet morning but not as bad as I had expected with a light SW>3 at 8 degrees with full cloud and light rain throughout.
A relatively quiet, typical June, morning with the only waders at the south end being Oystercatcher, Redshank, Curlew and Lapwing with Common Sandpiper and Dunlin on the north shore but far too wet for the scope so unable to i.d. any other small waders.
Swallows and 2 LBB gulls were the only birds in the air whilst a few Meadow Pipit and a single male Reed Bunting were in the compound area.
The islands are still showing well though it takes a couple of days after any substantial amounts of rain before the level rises and, apart from Saturday, it shows a few mainly dry days. Also, the valve is open to feed Luddenden Brook so this compensates for some of the rain entering the reservoir.
The only waders I have had in the past in June, other than the ones present now, are Black Tailed Godwit and Little Ringed Plover, though both these species are rare here and use this site as a quick stop off. Common Scoter should be the next new visitor to the water this month.
Early morning rain then cloudy sunshine for the rest of the day with a moderate sou'westerly with a morning temp of 8 degrees.
