3" long
Fly Flatts didnt look like this early morning
Plenty scraggy Wheatears coming in.
Looks like down to 4 Common Sandpipers now
Going for Hobby with this but with
Red Footed Falcon about who knows.
Mega distance, around 3 mile and in sun towards Walshaw Dean
Mega fast flyer and rising very high.
Fly Flatts 1500 - 1700 hrs In contrast to this mornings visit the sky was blue and the sun shining with a W>4. Around 30 % cloud cover. Still good numbers of Swifts around which may have aroused the above Hobby which appeared coming up the Calder valley from the south and continued >WNW towards Walshaw Dean. The bird was a good 3 miles away and right in the sun but a quick scan with bins revealed the face mask and rufousy underside although heavily silhouetted.
A walk the full length of the water from SE corner to NW corner revealed :-
4 Common Sandpiper
1 Hobby
9 Wheatear
1 Golden Plover
+ usual sp.
