Resident Little Owl.
Gulls taking advantage of Leeshaw shoreline.
With the return of the dreaded hot stuff it was a matter of finding somewhere with a cool breeze and lack of sun seeking nuggets. Leeshaw had the answer with a pleasantly cooling W>3 and not a soul in sight.
It was pleasing to find that due to no shoreline at Oxenhope reservoir the gulls were using Leeshaw as an alternative with around 100 present consisting of 12 Black Headed, 3 Herring and the rest Lesser Black Backed. Oystercatchers had a count of 11 with 6 in one field together, the rest scattered around the shoreline including at least 1 pair with a chick.
Seven Curlew were in the same field as the Oyks but much more flighty not hanging around for a photo shoot unlike the resident Little Owl enjoying the warmth of a dry stone wall. Otherwise it was down to the usual species and nothing moving in the sky with the sun blazing down and threatening to be the same into next week.
I,ll stick it a couple of days before I start with the rain dance in the hope of getting some shoreline back to Oxenhope.
