Old Guy Road/ Roper Lane

 

                                   Queensbury.        A bright icy sunrise

After a -7 degrees night the sun rose lighting up the sky though only briefly before clouding over at 3 degrees on a light W>3 . By late afternoon fog rolled in over the tops with drizzle which will hopefully start to make an impression on the snow.

                                        Several Blackbirds around the garden hunting for food along with 4 Wrens  which is unusual and meaning they are having a hard time. The Common gulls have deserted Foxhill park and probably headed for lower ground away from the snow.

                                     A walk around Old Guy Road flushed a single Snipe from a snow covered reed field whilst a flock of around 50 Starling were moving around the house tops checking the gardens for feeders.

            Roper Lane produced 18 Herring gull and 5 LBBs >SW through the Causeway Foot Col along with a single Greylag goose >NW. Otherwise it was just down to 2 Kestrel and the usual sp.

 Just a look back of wader species seen at Fly Flatts this year(2021) from March to August.

They were in order but the blog decided to scatter them about a bit.

Heavy freezing all day today at Queensbury and heavy snow most of the afternoon giving a good covering on top of the last one.

                          the end of July after loosing 2 broods.

Heavy overnight snow, made worse by gale force winds, stopped the job in Queensbury today with many side roads blocked due to drifting. You can tell how bad it was with 1 grit wagon coming past today, they don,t usually come out in bad weather!

                                A strong to gale force N>7 gusting 8 continued throughout the day but has started to drop this evening with heavy freezing. At least one advantage of not having the car is I havent had to dig it out.
