Another bright and breezy morning at Fly Flatts with a mix of sunshine, cloud and showers on a moderate W>4 at a cool 5 degrees.
As soon as I got out of the car 2 winter plumaged Dunlins zig zagged over the water very low and fast heading for the NW corner but a breezy walk on the west bank failed to find them on the shore so they must have continued >NW.
Three Buzzard were up together over the west ridge enjoying their favourite west wind whilst 2 Raven were over the quarry. Just a few Mipits in the sky heading >S in migration mode
and 27 Mallard were on the water.
Mid way through the watch I was scoping a single Common gull on the water when another gull flew low over the water but further away towards the north shore. As soon as I got the scope on it you could see its snouty shaped white head and small black eye, a 1st winter Caspian gull.
It had pink legs with a yellow ring on its right leg making it probably KMs bird that he has seen recently at various sites. It continued to fly >SW over the moor above Castle Carr.
Several Redwing contact calls overhead as I took the dogs out this evening after dark.
