Gulls on the move, Summer arrival and Winter goose. Fly Flatts

                                          Day of the big gulls

              Mixture of LBB and Herrings

                                             300 + counted >SW

Unusual to get 4 Common Sandpipers through high and >W

                                     Up to 18 present

A rare sight at Fly so far, 1 of 3 Swallows
Even rarer summer sight . Pink Footed Goose.

An early start to try to beat the heat but by 0645 hrs the haze was already burning off and temperatures rising though for the first half of the watch the wind was slightly stronger than yesterday with a SE>3 dropping to 2 .
With the early breeze the birds were much more active and shortly after arrival it was apparent that a big gull move was underway with a mix of Herring and Lesser Black Backed moving on a broad front at two levels. Several of the lower level birds stopped off briefly on the water or banking before continuing on.
A walk the length of the west banking produced at least 18 Common Sandpipers with the unusual sight of 4 Common Sandpipers moving over high and >W.
Only 3 Swallow and no Swift but the welcome arrival of a Cuckoo way over the moor then calling from trees down by Dean Head reservoir.
Two Golden Plover were over on the flat moor along with a Snipe but only 1 pair of Wheatear today.
As I was tackling up in the car I had a final scan over the water  to see 3 Greylags but the centre goose being darker and smaller. Back out of the car with the tackle and along to the SW corner to view a strange bird for summer, a Pink Footed Goose. This bird could possibly be the Cold Edge bird or one that was hanging around with Greylags at Leeshaw last month.
An interesting morning despite the weather.
