After a real thunder and lightening display and torrential rain late evening yesterday we were left with dense fog this morning which cleared by midday but from Soil Hill this evening a 360 deg bank of thick haze hung in the valleys whilst the sky was clear and blue above.
1 hours skywatch, after checking the tree line for migrants, remember those, was difficult with vertical visibility only but enough to see if anything came over. Checking the sky horizontally was a no go in the haze.
Swallows were moving >SW throughout, very high, some out of sight to the naked eye whilst a steady flow of Mipits headed >W.
A Sparrowhawk nearly slipped past me skimming low over the grass lifting a flock of around 40 Mipits and 5 Skylarks before they dropped back into the long grass.
