A tea time visit to Oxenhope reservoir after yesterdays report from KM of a 2nd summer Caspian gull there. The shore in now completely submerged with one small area opposite the hide that gulls can stand on with their legs half under water.
Less gulls today and mainly on the water with around 300 LBB, 250 BHG and 14 Herring.
A scan through the Herrings immediately found one to stand out being a slightly larger bird with a dark large bill and neck speckles. As it preened and lifted its wings the underwing was pure white.
To me it can only be a Caspian but with no previous experience of this sp I,ll await the final verdict from Keith and Mick, the gull men.
Whilst this was going on I missed a Pintail on Redcar Tarn, I.H. but if it is a Caspian I chose the right venue and theres always tomorrow to see if the Pintail stays.
