Bathing day at Shelf Moor

Just 9 Lapwing at Shelf Moor today.

A dash to Shelf Moor trailer park field this dinner time produced just 9 Lapwing all busy bathing in the icy water. These birds will soon be away to the moors now after a very disappointing winter with the winter flock peaking at around 100 as apposed to c300 on previous years.
Lapwing are not the only species to desert Shelf Moor this winter with Snipe almost none existent during the back end of the winter where they peaked at 48 in December 2013.
Hopefully we,ll make up for it shortly with a fall of Wheatear.
On the up side around 40 Meadow Pipits were in the field looking like new arrivals very mobile and feeding well.
Just 2 herring gulls over the High St at 0740hrs this morning >SW and another fly over of the Sparrowhawk at midday over Chapel St. This bird is becoming much more active of late.
