After a horrendous morning with heavy rain and sleet the afternoon turned out bright, mild and calm.
An after work trip to Soil Hill was planned, partly due to perfect conditions for passing Osprey and mainly to try to find NKs Ring Ouzel , a species I badly need a photo of.
This was then further inspired by a report from DP am and NK pm of Wheatears invading the hill.
On arrival I soon found myself amongst the Wheatears cutting short the Ring Ouzel search and taking my concentration off sky watching with so many Wheatears around but all typical spring birds being very flighty unlike autumn birds which are much more docile and photogenic but lack the male plumage.
I counted 9 female and 3 male just in one small area along with several singing Skylarks.
Shame about the Ring Ouzel but thats for another day.
