1st tern was very dark winged and low down looked like a black.
Moved on quickly by gulls
Apologies for bad photos in the fog
2nd bird, much lighter but both ad Commons.
Ogden 0730- 1000hrs, still and heavy mist, horizontal vision only.
Must have done my low pressure dance too heavy last night as the fog was so dense Fly Flatts was a no go.
Ogden was very murky but looked good for movers and I wasnt disappointed. It started off badly being very quiet both on the water and around the perimeter of the wood until suddenly all the gulls lifted noisely in mobbing mode and a scan through the mist found a very dark looking Tern low over the water. The wings were very dark and the body looked nearly black when low down but looking at the photos this was a trick of the light although the wings were dark like juvs but the crown is of an adult.
The bird was quickly moved on >N by the gulls after 1 quick circuit and an alert to DCB,HC at Oxenhope found nothing.
Shortly after, a second bird came through being lighter and identified as an ad Common Tern which the first bird was also, looking at the photos. This bird flew quickly through >NW.
