A bright clear blue sky at Fly Flatts early morn with my share of fog down in the valleys for a change.
A light NW>1 at 3 degrees and a heavy ground frost. By mid watch the sky was clouding over but remaining good visibility.
Conditions looked perfect in the sky but after a good move of Woodpigeons >S first light very little was on the move although several big move days will have been missed due to fog and the vis mig season will soon be drawing to a close.
The highlight that saved the morning was a drake Common Scoter way out on the water which was present yesterday afternoon seen by DJS, and was held down overnight by fog. The bird was constantly diving and feeding throughout. This is the latest Scoter I,ve had, all other sightings through the years have been between April and September.
Just 3 Reed Buntings in the migrant bushes whilst 4 Herring gull and a Black Headed were on the water briefly along with 2 Mallard. A Kestrel and 2 Raven were overhead.
No sign of Pinks or Whoopers today and no Whoopers on Mixenden or Cold Edge , which I always check on my way to and from Fly Flatts.
