Leeshaw vis mig and more of the Denholme Osprey.

New arrival for Leeshaw     Distant juv Gt Crested Grebe.

After a long wait the Denholme Osprey returns.

Very soft pictures taken in to the sun.

At last a morning without fog although the hazy sunshine made viewing very difficult. The wind was now from the SW>2 with 60 % cloud at 16 degrees.
A juv Gt Crested Grebe was newly arrived onto the water but otherwise it was down to the usual regulars but a reasonable vis mig count.
Back to Doe Park p.m. where the Osprey had been seen up to midday but no signs as I arrived mid afternoon. A walk through the wood to the far end of the water produced the usual Canadas and Mallards with the bonus of a Tawny Owl calling. A single Moorhen , Kestrel and Heron were also present. Back on the dam wall Matt Bell, Hebden Bridge birder ,was on a twitch for the Osprey so it was good to have a talk of birding in years gone by.
By 1500 hrs Matt and I were leaving accepting a dip when luckily Haworth birder Caroline turned up and as we stopped to talk to her the Osprey appeared over our heads.
It circled for a while, sometimes very high, before 2 attempts of diving for fish which failed both times.
Caroline continued watching the bird after we left. I was really glad Matt got it giving a aerial display for us.

Caroline is involved in Hedgehog rescue so if anyone has any problems Hedgehog wise she can be contacted through me.
