A day of bush bashing at Fly Flatts and swarms of flying ants. (permit only)

                                                    Willow Warblers moving through

                                         A very flighty Whinchat

                                                   male Stonechat
                                        juv female

                                            distant Whinchat with Stonechat behind.

A strange weather system today at Fly Flatts starting with a SW>3 and drizzle throughout the morning and very dark clouds, then by late afternoon the wind had turned >N dropping to dead calm at 19 degrees.  The afternoon had swarms of Flying Ants attracting the birds.
A good start to the morning with a single Cormorant >NE followed by 6 BH gull in the same direction but after that it died a death. The rest on the morning watch and the afternoon session was spent checking through the small passerines in and around the boatyard. The aim in the afternoon was to get a good Whinchat photo which never happened  with the very flighty bird.
Luckily the water level has,nt risen with the weekend rain and a dry forecast for the coming week so theres still a slim chance of a wader or two.
Target bird for the coming week, Osprey, whats funny about that !!!!
