Another icy cold morning at Fly Flatts at minus one degree on a moderate NW>6 with clear blue skies and sunshine. By mid afternoon the wind had eased to NW>5 but 30 minutes into the watch the sky blackened and a powerful blizzard came across the water cutting the visibility down to a few yards and settling on the ground. This lasted about 15 minutes but followed by a second blast shortly afterwards.
The morning was reasonably quiet with birds sheltering from the wind, including 2 Ringed Plovers hiding behind tufts of grass on the east bank.
Lesser Black Backed gulls were moving >NE as well as a few Herring gull but otherwise a poor morning although it had all the right ingredients for something maritime coming through.
All the frog spawn up there is now frozen solid.
The afternoon was a washout with the snow blizzards but nice to meet
walkers/birders, Alison and Nigel battling the elements.
