Ogden, Ned Hill , Perseverance Road.

Black Redstart, distant shots in dark conditions.

Wheatear bottom left, Black Red top right.
                                                 Sheltering from the NE wind

                                                   Fanfare.

  • Headed for Fly Flatts this morning in clear skies but looking a bit misty on the tops. By the time I got to the wind farm I turned around in dense fog and dropped down to Ogden.
  • Ogden was clear at 8 degrees with a NE>4 increasing NE>5 but very dull and dark conditions.
  •                                                               A few species moving but Ogden itself was very quiet even after a circuit of the water and a trek up to the Giants Tooth coming back with a few Blue and Great Tits. A small flock of Long Tailed Tits and Siskin were in bushes opposite the info centre whilst the water just held 4 LBB gulls plus a few Common and Black Headed.
  •                                                              Late afternoon I watched from the Ned Hill watch point thinking of Pinks, Terns and Kittiwakes but just ended up with Herrings, Commons and LBBs.
  •                                                              On the way home I took the opportunity to check out the Black Redstart which has been about over a week now but the first time I had been to see it.
  • It showed well on and off but very flighty and keeping out of the cold NE wind along with a Wheatear for company.
  •                                    Nice to meet Bryn Hans, a grapevine member, who arrived just as the bird was showing well so I left him with a smile on his face.
